How to Record Video Game Footage on Any Device (PC, Console, Phone)

Short answer: how you record gameplay depends on the device, on PC use your GPU's recorder or free OBS Studio, on console use the built-in capture (or a capture card for full quality), and on phone use the built-in screen recorder. All can be done free or cheaply. Here is the method for each and the settings that keep footage smooth. On PC (free) GPU recorder: NVIDIA (Alt+Z) and AMD (Alt+R) overlays record with the least performance hit, and offer instant replay to save the last few minutes. OBS Studio : free, no watermark, for webcam overlays, multiple sources and streaming. Xbox Game Bar: press Win+G for a quick built-in clip.
